Simplicity in true form.The drive arrived and was unpacked from its box. I connected the drive to its cable and then plugged the cable into the USB port on my laptop and, Poof!, I had a new 1TB drive of storage space. That's it. That's all I had to do. The drive comes with pre-installed backup software -- full then incremental -- which you DO NOT have to download and install onto your computer, it's all self contained. If all you want is to drag and drop files then you can do that, too. I was able to back up about 7.5 GB of data in half an hour which isn't bad for an external USB drive using USB 2.0 since I don't have USB 3.0 available at this time. The unit itself measures 4.5" X 3" X 0.75" and comes with a 17" cable. Power for the drive comes from the USB port. My machine is a Toshiba Satellite A105 using Windows 7 Pro. Plug it in, it pops up on your desktop. Go to Disk Utilities (utilities folder in Applications), choose the drive, then Mac from the drop-down format menu. It reformats the drive quickly and easily. File transfer is very fast on my MacBook Pro, and it works seamlessly with Time Machine for backups (just choose it as your backup disk when you open the application).
