| 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful:  Great Drive, This review is from: MiniPro 1TB External eSATA 6Gb/s + USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive (Electronics) I have been using this drive enclosure since early November with absolutely no problems. It is plugged into a Rosewill hub, and just sits in the background. I chose this drive over other 2.5" portable Hard Drives because it can be powered by an external 2.0A power supply. When reading all the negative reviews of other drives, most of the low ratings can be traced to insufficient power coming from the computer USB ports. I surmise that many of the reviewers do not recognize this, and blame the drive (with just cause). A typical 2.5" HD requires 850ma to start up, and USB ports are current limited to 500ma. Notice that the drives that have a Y cable (to provide 1.0A to the drive) have the fewest negative ratings and the ones that don't (like Seagate) have the most. The particular drive in this unit is a Toshiba MK1059GSM, which, according to Toshiba requires 900ma to start, and 440ma to run. (Higher than typical) I actually bought the separate external... Anyway, it is AWESOME! A 1TB hard drive that can run off of USB power (although it came with a power brick too). I use it to extend my netbook's disk space and it does wonderfully well. It is REALLY tiny. As a matter of fact, I think I might be able to remove it from its case and install it into my netbook as the primary drive (although I have not tried that yet.If you want a 1 TB drive that is unobtrusive or USB powered this one is for you! |
